ABOUT ME

Yasmine is the oldest of four children and the daughter to parents who are both Deaf. Growing up she never thought she wanted to be a sign language interpreter and instead went to school for Nursing. It wasn't all what  she expected and a Deaf couple encouraged her to think about attending Columbia College Chicago for interpreting. She graduated after three years and couldn't imagine doing anything else with her life!

Yasmine graduated in 2015 from Columbia College Chicago's Interpreter Training Program. She has taken specific classes throughout her time there which include Music Interpreting, Medical Terminology for Interpreters, and Interpreting with Special Populations. During her Senior Year of Practicum she worked with numerous mentors in various settings such as: College and High School Classes, Medical, Museum tours, Access, and Deaf-Blind.

WHAT I'VE DONE

Since Yasmine has graduated from college she has started taking her various licensing exams like the BEI and EIPA. As of right now, she is planning to live in Northwest Indiana part time to stay close to family. She is hoping she will be able to work with an agency in Indiana to gain experience. She hopes that as an interpreter she is able to be an advocate for the Deaf and help bridge the gap between both the Deaf and Hearing communities.
