HELLO I'M YASMINE,
AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER
Just a little about myself...
Yasmine graduated from Columbia College Chicago's Interpreter
Training Ptogram in May 2015
Interpreting wasn't always what she wanted to do with her life. As the oldest of five children and the daughter to parents who are both Deaf, interpreting was the furthest thing from her mind. She attended Oakton Community College where she completed the Basic Nursing Assistant Training Program (BNAT). During this time she was working at a nursing home and was a Child Life Support Staff at Lutheran General Hospital in Niles, IL. After two years, she realized that being a nurse was not what she wanted to do with her life. While at work a Deaf couple told her that she should consider being an interpreter and look into Colubia College Chicago. She insisted that was something she wasn't interested in doing.
After a few months of constant internal struggle, she looked up Columbia's program and applied for enrollment. She still didn't think anything of it until she met the staff and started classes. Slowly but surely she realized this was what she had been missing all along. There was always a love for the language and Deaf people but never thought to give the profession a chance. She now could never see herself doing anything else with her life.
"A huge Thank You to my family for their constant love and support" - Yasmine
